As expected, Connor Allen and Dylan McIlrath have both been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack to replace the two free spots in the Rangers’ defensive pairings with the injured to Kevin Klein and captain Ryan McDonagh.

This is now the second straight season that Allen, 24, and McIlrath, 22, have been called up to play with the Rangers.

McIlrath, the Rangers’ 10th overall pick in the 2010 draft, turned pro during the 2012-2013 season, but played just 45 games due to surgery he required on his kneecap. He played in 62 games with Hartford last year, scoring six goals with 11 assists for a total of 17 points, as well as accumulating 165 penalty minutes

McIlrath made his NHL debut against the Columbus Blue Jackets last season, and had his first fight in the NHL when he dropped the gloves with Calgary’s Brian McGrattan.

the 6-foot-5, 220 pound Dylan McIlrath will be in the Rangers’ starting lineup tomorrow night. McIlrath made his NHL debut last season against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Connor Allen was not a Rangers draft pick, and was instead signed as a free agent out of UMASS-Amherst following his third season there.

Allen made his debut last season against the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 29th. He was held pointless in the three games he played, but looked comfortable on defense, and played relatively well.

Allen had a very successful rookie season in Hartford, racking up 31 points (6-25-31) in 72 games.

With McIlrath and Allen in the lineup for Monday’s game against St. Louis at Madison Square Garden, the Rangers will be dressing four defenseman who were not in the opening night lineup less than a month ago.

The undrafted Connor Allen will play in his fourth career NHL game with the Rangers tomorrow night against St. Louis. Allen totaled 31 points in his rookie season and looked comfortable playing at the NHL level.

Dan Boyle remains out with a broken hand he suffered in the season opener, but he has been skating with teammates. John Moore is serving the second game of his five-game suspension he was handed earlier this week. And of course, the Recent McDonagh and Klein injuries have them both out for tomorrow’s game.

Adding McIlrath and Allen still allows the Blueshirts to have a balanced group of right-handed and left-handed defensemen. Dan Girardi, Mike Kostka, and Dylan McIlrath will be on the right side, and Marc Staal, Matt Hunwick, and Connor Allen will be on the left side.

In eight games with Hartford this season, Allen has scored 2 goals alongside three assists for five points, and McIlrath has been held pointless so far, but has accumulated 21 penalty minutes.
