The win streak ended at nine games, so it’s time to start another one.

After falling a win short of the franchise record 10 game win streak, the Rangers (14-3-2) look to get back to their winning ways against the Florida Panthers (8-8-3) to cap off a brief two game road trip.

The Rangers lost in regulation for just the third time this season, and the first time since October 15th. After Dominic Moore scored a late goal to tie the game at one, but they surrendered a shorthanded goal with just 1:05 remaining in the third period.

This is the first of three games between these two teams, and the first of two at the BB&T Center. The Rangers swept the season series last year against the Panthers. Read the rest of this entry

Tonight in Tampa Bay, the red-hot Rangers (14-2-2) get their first shot at redemption against the Lightning (8-9-3), the very same team that knocked them out of the playoffs last season, just one win shy of a return trip to the Stanley Cup Finals.

While the Rangers are currently off to the best start in franchise history, the Lightning have failed to recreate their Eastern Conference Champion selves. After winning their first three games of the season, Tampa is 5-9-3 in their last 17 games, losing two straight games and four of their last five.

On top of that, they’re dealing with some substantial injures. Ondrej Palat has missed the last three games with an upper-body injury, but Tyler Johnson and Cedric Pacquette have also been dealing with injuries, and will miss tonight’s game against the Rangers. On top of that, Jonathan Druin and former-Ranger Ryan Callahan are listed as day-to-day, and are not expected to play. Read the rest of this entry

Don’t look now, but the Rangers are the best team in the NHL.

After Montreal’s quick start to the season and Dallas’ offensive explosion, it is the New York Rangers (14-2-2) that sit atop the league standings through 18 games after taking down the Toronto Maple Leafs (5-9-4) by a score of 4-3 at Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers extended their win streak to nine games, the third longest streak in franchise history and the longest since a 10 game win streak since the 1972-73 season. They also have recorded a point in 13 consecutive games (11-0-2), with 11 wins in their last 12 games (11-0-1).

The Rangers have also set a new franchise record for wins (14) and points (30) through the first 18 games of the season. Their record on home ice improves to 9-0-1, with an eight game win streak at the Garden. Over that span, they’ve outscored opponents 33-11 and have a 16.2 shooting percentage. After another grueling road win against the Ottawa Senators, the Rangers (13-2-2) return back to Madison Square Garden to take on the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs (5-8-4), looking to add on to their best start in franchise history.
After everyone talked about the Montreal Canadiens quick start to the season, the Rangers have taken the league by storm, possessing the best record in the NHL and a tie for the most amount of points (28) of any teams.

In addition, New York has won eight straight games, as well as recording a point in 12 consecutive games (10-0-2). They’ve won 10 of their last 11 games (10-0-1), and have matched a franchise best for points through the first 17 games, and set a new record for wins through the first 17 games to begin a season. After a brief moment of silence for the recent tragedy in France, the Rangers (13-2-2) and Senators (8-5-4) were set to go for the first of three matchups this season. The Rangers went 2-1-0 against Ottawa last season, winning once at home and once on the road. In Saturday’s afternoon game, the Rangers proceeded to extend their winning streak to 8 straight with a 2-1 shootout win.

It was easy to tell that the Rangers intended to set the pace of this game, and as always, it was a fast one. Giving up the first couple of shots on goal, the Blueshirts rebounded and played the up-tempo game they’re used to. They were able to sustain a significant amount of offensive pressure, and this led to quality scoring chances, particularly Miller’s chance with a wide open net. Kreider took a snap shot from the point, and Anderson’s attempt to stop it caused him to slip. JT Miller had the puck at left circle but failed to capitalize on the open net opportunity, and the game remained scoreless.
