Carolina Hurricanes v New York Rangers

Jesper Fast has been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack, and will likely slot into the fourth line for New York when they face the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow night.

This evening, the Rangers made a few roster moves, recalling Jesper Fast from Hartford and reassigning Ryan Malone and Connor Allen to the Wolf Pack.

Connor Allen was sent down as a result of John Moore finishing his five game suspension. Allen didn’t look out of place at the NHL level, but it was basically a choice between him and Matt Hunwick or Michael Kostka, who have been steady replacing the injured Rangers’ defensemen.

Ryan Malone, who never really fit into Vigneault’s system according to the head coach, has struggled to find a consistent place in the Rangers’ lineup. Malone has not registered a point, and has 14 hits so far. Read the rest of this entry

Derek Stepan will make his season debut tomorrow night, his first game back since suffering a broken fibula in his leg in the preseason.

After missing the first 12 games of the season, Derek Stepan is set to make his first start of the season tomorrow against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Stepan has been practicing in full contact drills and practices for the past few days, and head coach Alain Vigneault confirmed that Stepan will be returning.

Stepan will likely not be starting out on the top line however. That role will remain with Derick Brassard, who has 11 points in 12 games, and has been playing extremely well with Rick Nash and Martin St. Louis.

During practice, Stean was seen skating with Chris Kreider and Mats Zuccarello, which could certainly be the second line against Toronto. Read the rest of this entry

Chris Mueller has been reassigned to Hartford, meaning that Derek Stepan’s return is imminent.

This afternoon, the New York Rangers reassigned forward Chris Mueller to the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers’ AHL affiliate.

Mueller was originally called up to help a depleted Rangers center group, most notable with the injury to Derek Stepan.

In seven games with the Rangers, Mueller has scored once and picked up an assist, with both of those points coming against the New Jersey Devils on October 21st.

Mueller spent a lot of time at center, filling in the fourth line position when Dominic Moore was moved up to the third line. Mueller also played on the wing position when platooning with Kevin Hayes on the fourth line.

The reassignment of Chris Mueller has a few meanings outside of where he will be playing his next hockey game. Read the rest of this entry

John Moore Suspended for 5 Games

John Moore

Rangers’ defenseman will be suspended for the next 5 games as a result of his hit to the head on Minnesota WIld forward Eric Haula.

Following John Moore’s match penalty on Monday against the Minnesota Wild, Moore has been handed a 5 game suspension by the NHL department of player safety.

Moore delivered an illegal blow to the head of Wild forward Eric Haula, which did cause an injury. It is important to know that the hit was not late and was not with the elbow, but Moore was unable to hit him square through the body.

Initial contact was made with the shoulder, but the main point of contact was with the head, which is the reason for the suspension, as well as the hit leading to an injury. Read the rest of this entry
