Sorry Filip Forsberg, what you have done in Nashville has been tremendous, but Aaron Ekblad of the Florida Panthers deserves to take home the Calder Trophy for the NHL’s most outstanding rookie.

Anytime you watch a Florida Panthers game and see Ekblad skating on the first defensive pairing, it’s easy to understand why Dale Tallon, the General Manager of the Panthers, drafted him with the first overall pick in last year’s draft. Read the rest of this entry

Rangers take over first place in the division with comeback win over Coyotes

After a rough first period, the Rangers (38-16-6) managed to find a way to crawl back into the game, scoring three times to take down the Arizona Coyotes (20-35-7), extending their point streak to 10 games (8-0-2), and giving the team yet another four game win streak.

With the win, the Rangers tied the Islanders with 82 points, but since they have two games in hand, took sole possession of first place for the first time this season. Rangers close out homestand against Coyotes; Rick Nash expected to play

The Rangers (37-16-6) carry a season high nine game point streak (7-0-2) into the Garden, where they will look to finish their three game homestand on a high note when they take on the struggling Arizona Coyotes (20-34-7), who have lost seven consecutive games.

One of those seven losses came at the hands of the Rangers, with New York coming away with a big 5-1 win in Arizona. Rick Nash scored the game winner early in the third period, and Kevin Hayes scored his first ever shorthanded goal, which made it three straight games that he scored in. Read the rest of this entry

Rangers prevail over Calgary despite absence of Rick Nash; Talbot earns the shutout

The Rangers (37-16-6) put forth a very strong effort against the Calgary Flames (32-24-4), battling for a 1-0 shutout and extending their point streak to eight games (7-0-1), keeping them in second place in the Metropolitan Division, and just two points behind the Islanders. The Rangers are 8-1-2 since Lundqvist has been out.

Earlier this afternoon, the Rangers announced that they were dealing with some flu like symptoms, but it came as a surprise when it was announced that Rick Nash would be a scratch due to neck spasms. He is currently listed as day-to-day. Read the rest of this entry

Rangers battling illnesses before game against Calgary; Lindberg reportedly called up

After a shootout victory on Sunday, the Rangers (36-16-6) are set to take on the Calgary Flames (33-24-4) at Madison Square Garden for the second and final matchup between these two teams this season.

The Rangers took down the Flames in Calgary back on December 16th, jumping out to a 4-0 second period lead before finishing with a 5-2 victory at the Saddledome. Rick Nash had two goals in the game, and Chris Kreider scored one of the more important ones, finding the back of the net with 7.8 second remaining in the first period, giving the Rangers a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.
