Rangers looking to extend winstreak against the ‘Canes; Brassard to play

The Rangers (15-10-4) will look to extend their season-best four game win streak against the Carolina Hurricanes (9-19-3) in Raleigh, North Carolina. This is the first game of a home-and-home series, with the final game being played tomorrow at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers and the Hurricanes have played once before this season, and the Blueshirts walked away with a 2-1 victory in the shootout. Henrik Lundqvist started and made 29 saves in the win, and Anton Khudobin stopped 33 of 34 shots. Derick Brassard scored the only goal in regulation for the Rangers. Read the rest of this entry
Brassard expected to play in Carolina; Talbot signs contract extension

After missing the past two games with the mumps, Derick Brassard rejoined the Rangers for Friday’s practice. Following the morning skate, Rangers head couch Alain Vigneault announced that he expects him to play Saturday’s game in Carolina.
Brassard, who centered Rick Nash and Mats Zuccarello during practice, said that he would wait until the morning before he decided if he was ready to go against the Hurricanes, after having some difficulties building up his strength and conditioning once again. Read the rest of this entry

After missing the last two games with a case of the mumps, Alain Vigneault informed media that he expects Derick Brassard to skate with the team tomorrow afternoon.
Like Tanner Glass during his stint with the illness, Brassard has been isolated from his teammates after he showed symptoms of the mumps. This will be the first time that Brassard has contact with his teammates since the victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Read the rest of this entry
Jesper Fast recalled from Hartford; Malone and Allen reassigned

Jesper Fast has been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack, and will likely slot into the fourth line for New York when they face the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow night.
This evening, the Rangers made a few roster moves, recalling Jesper Fast from Hartford and reassigning Ryan Malone and Connor Allen to the Wolf Pack.
Connor Allen was sent down as a result of John Moore finishing his five game suspension. Allen didn’t look out of place at the NHL level, but it was basically a choice between him and Matt Hunwick or Michael Kostka, who have been steady replacing the injured Rangers’ defensemen.
Ryan Malone, who never really fit into Vigneault’s system according to the head coach, has struggled to find a consistent place in the Rangers’ lineup. Malone has not registered a point, and has 14 hits so far. Read the rest of this entry
