Rangers win streak comes to an end in Carolina; Zuccarello scores twice

The Rangers broke their three-game winning streak with a 3-2 road loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Friday night. They had a strong attempt to come back in the third, but Ward stood tall in net for his team and helped give them their first home opener win in eight years.
After two bad giveaways, the teams traded chances but failed to capitalize. Soon after, Faulk’s delay of game penalty allowed the Rangers to really get their offense going on the power play. After a few attempts, Mika Zibanejad thought he put the puck behind Ward, but it somehow came back out, and Zibanejad fed an open Zuccarello. He ripped a shot from the circle that found its way past a sprawled Ward. The Hurricanes challenged for goalie interference, but in looking at the replay, it seemed as though one of the Hurricanes’ own players fell on top of Buchnevich in front of the net, so it was ruled a good goal.
Carolina responded fast, though, and put one past Lundqvist, as there was no defender in front of him. Jeff Skinner received credit for the slap shot that tied the game at 1. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers look to continue win streak in Carolina; Buchnevich ready to go

Following an exciting comeback win over the Boston Bruins, the New York Rangers (5-2-0) are back on the road briefly, taking on the Carolina Hurricanes (1-3-2) at PNC Arena.
The Rangers have won their last three games, taking down the Bruins with five unanswered goals; two from Brandon Pirri, and one from Rick Nash, Jimmy Vesey and Kevin Hayes. Four players scored while 10 players picked up a point, continuing the trend of offensive production from all over the team.
While the Rangers have played a lot of home games, the Hurricanes have yet to play one, with tonight marking their home opener after starting the season with six straight road games. They’ve lost the last two games by a combined score of 9-5, but their three other losses have been by just one goal. The Hurricanes are winless in their last seven home openers (0-6-1). Lundqvist, Vesey star in gutsy comeback win over the Capitals

After a poor start to the game, the Rangers’ offense sparked an incredible turnaround, and the Rangers (3-2-0) came away from the Verizon Center with a 4-2 win over the Washington Capitals (3-1-1).
The Capitals scored just 1:33 and followed that up with another goal from Ovechkin in the second period, as well as excellent goaltending from Braden Holtby. But the Rangers came out firing in the second period, fighting to get a 3-2 lead and having Henrik Lundqvist do the rest.

Rangers fall to Detroit; Jimmy Howard outstanding

The New York Rangers have been playing some exciting hockey to start the 2016-2017 season. I think we can all agree they’ve been fun to watch with their passion and energy, especially as of late. In their third home game of the season, they’re record went to 2-2-0.
Just over a minute into play, Chris Kreider did a great job getting the puck to the point, and McDonagh ripped a shot that a well-positioned Mika Zibanejad deflected past Howard for a one goal lead.
The Wings had a pretty decent comeback as they raced down the ice, getting quite a few quality chances. Lundqvist was spectacular with a pivotal glove save on Tatar that kept the game in his team’s favor. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers take on the Red Wings in Original Six battle; Klein back in the lineup

The Rangers (2-1-0) will look to start their first winning streak of the season when they take on the Detroit Red Wings (1-2-0) at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers are coming off of a thrilling seven goal win over the Sharks on Monday, a game that featured seven different goal scorers and another two-point game from Chris Kreider in Antti Raanta’s season debut. New York nearly surrendered a three goal lead but managed to respond and hold on.
The Red Wings last played on Monday, their final season opener at the Joe Louis Arena. They beat the Senators 5-1, with defenseman Mike Green scoring his first career hat trick and two goals from Darren Helm. Read the rest of this entry
