Rangers take on Flyers in first game without Derek Stepan

After two disappointing losses, the Rangers (16-5-2) were handed another tough pill to swallow, losing center Derek Stepan for an indefinite amount of time after he broke some ribs following a late hit from Bruins winger Matt Beleskey.
That means that Vigneault will have to adjust his squad accordingly as they prepare to take on the Philadelphia Flyers (8-10-5) for the second of five matchups between the longtime rivals, and the first of two games at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers did have their nine game home win streak snapped against the Canadiens on Wednesday, but they still have been superb at MSG, posting a 10-3-1 record. They have not lost three consecutive games in regulation since very early last season, a stretch from October 11 to the 14, so they’ll aim to end their mini slide today. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers lose the game and Derek Stepan in Boston

It was an intense back-and-forth affair with a lot of aggressive play, typical of a rivalry matchup we’ve seen from these two teams over the years. Despite an improved performance and steadfast play, a pair of late goals swung the game in Boston’s favor.
Part of the reason why the Rangers loss was due to a dirty, late hit from Matt Beleskey on Derek Stepan. Beleskey hit the Rangers center well after a pass and into the boards headfirst. Matinee matchup for the Rangers against streaking Boston Bruins

With the turkey and stuffing consumed and Thanksgiving over, it’s time for Rangers hockey again.
Following the worst performance of the season, the Rangers (16-4-2) will look to rebound and get back to their winning ways this afternoon against the Boston Bruins (12-8-1), winners of four of their last five games.
Although the Rangers have won 11 of their last 13 games, they’ve lost twice in the past seven days, including barely scarping by for wins against the Panthers and Predators, two games where they did not play all that well. They still are sitting in first in the Metropolitan, but the Capitals (15-5-1, 31 PTS) are not far behind. Read the rest of this entry
McIlrath, Lindberg proving their worth, lineup for final preseason game

It’s going to be very tough for Alain Vigneault to go against the youth movement for this upcoming season.
Like Anthony Duclair did last season in training camp, Oscar Lindberg and Dylan McIlrath, both rookies, have opened the eyes of the coaching staff, make a significant case for them to be on the opening night roster.
The strong performances from many of the youngsters has Vigneault perplexed too, stating that he has not finalized the roster heading into the final preseason game tonight against the Boston Bruins.
“I can tell you right now we have not come up with a definite answer yet,” Vigneault told Blueshirts United. “These are all questions we are right now debating within our group. This player brings this element, this player brings that element. How do we look with a certain guy in the lineup? Young versus older? We’re working through the process and I can tell you right now we haven’t come up with a definite answer on any of those things.” Read the rest of this entry
Rangers drop second straight against Capitals; Hayes and Brassard both score

For the first time since January 29th, the Rangers (47-21-7) dropped their second straight game in regulation, losing by a final score of 5-2 to the Washington Capitals (41-25-10), giving the Rangers losses in three of their last four games.
The day started out with some surprising news, learning that Matt Hunwick was a late scratch due to an upper body injury sustained in yesterday’s game against the Bruins. As a result, Chris Summers was an emergency call up, and played in his first game as a Ranger. Summers was acquired in the trade that sent Keith Yandle to the Rangers.
Despite the score, the Rangers played better than it indicates, at least for the first half of the game, consistently out-chancing the Capitals, but they were undone by a few bad mistakes and sloppy play in their own end. The Capitals capitalized on the few quality chances that they had, and made the Rangers pay. Read the rest of this entry
