After another five goal effort against the Bruins last night, the Rangers (9-3-0) take on the Winnipeg Jets (5-6-1) at Madison Square Garden, with the team looking for a season best five game win streak.
The Rangers erased an early deficit yesterday with another five goal game, including Nick Holden’s first as a Ranger, Stepan’s first of the season and Pavel Buchnevich’s first career NHL goal. Antti Raanta had another great performance, turning aside 35 shots for his second win of the season.
The Jets won their last game, beating the Red Wings 5-3. Two rookies shined in the game, with 2016 second overall pick Patrik Laine scoring his seventh goal of the season, and Brandon Tanev scoring his first two NHL goals, including the game winner. Following a sweep of a three game homestand, the Rangers (8-3-0) hit the road for one game to take on the Boston Bruins (6-4-0) at the TD Garden, beginning a back-to-back series for New York.
The Bruins were struggling a bit to begin the season but just finished a three game road trip, winning all three games, allowing a total of four goals in those games. Rask returned from injury and started all three games, while the Bruins received scoring from all over their lineup. They play three of their next four games at home.
The Rangers have been fantastic lately, winning their last three games and six of their last seven. The Rangers just swept a three game homestand, outscoring opponents 16-4, and got scoring from throughout their lineup as well. The Rangers (8-3-0) scored another five goals, using a late comeback to take down Cam Talbot and the Edmonton Oilers (7-3-1), and winning 5-3.
The Rangers win meant a sweep of their three game homestand, outscoring opponents 16-4 over the three games. The Oilers put up the best effort, holding the lead or maintaining a tie for 58 minutes of the game.
Kevin Hayes, Michael Grabner, Jesper Fast, Rick Nash and JT Miller were the goalscorers, marking yet another night where the depth shone through and multiple players scored goals. The defense was good enough for the most part and Lundqvist was passable.

The Rangers (7-3-0) will look to sweep their three game homestand tonight when they take on the surprisingly good Edmonton Oilers (7-2-1) for the first time this season.
The Rangers have won the first two games of this homestand by a combined score of 11-1, recording the first shutout of the season Tuesday night against the Blues thanks to Henrik Lundqvist’s 35 save performance.
This is the first matchup between the Rangers and the Oilers this season, and the only one at Madison Square Garden. The teams split the season series last year, with the home team winning each game. The Rangers scored at least four goals in each of the games and a total of nine. Rick Nash led the team with five points (2-3-5) while Mats Zuccarello tallied a pair of goals and assists. The Rangers (7-3-0) continued their three game homestand against the Blues, and surprisingly cruised past the St. Louis Blues (5-3-2), seeing their offense explode for another five goals in a shutout victory.
Henrik Lundqvist recorded his first shutout of the season and the 60th of his career, stopping 35 shots in the process. Dan Girardi opened up the scoring with his second goal of the year, and that was followed by goals from Jimmy Vesey, Rick Nash, Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes.
Since these recaps are getting super long due to the Rangers scoring a ton, I’m going to recap all of the goals first, then head into opinions and observations.
