Despite initial reports of being day-to-day, Rick Nash has now missed over three weeks, eight games, with a bone bruise sustained in the game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Nash took a nasty fall and crash into the boards, only to come back out on the ice and block a hard shot on the shin.
At this point, I’m finding it harder to believe that this is just a bone bruise. It could be a hairline fracture or a full-fledged fracture in one of the bones on his leg. The Rangers claim it isn’t a fracture, and just a deep bone bruise, which is a fracture to the innermost layer of bone. Whatever it is, the injury is making it hard for Nash to walk according to the Rangers.
Also, let’s get a few things clear. I’m sick and tired of the comments with people saying that the Rangers are better without him. They aren’t. He’s their most consistent forward, their most skilled forward, and their best forward. His absence is causing an imbalance on the lines, forcing both Tanner Glass and Dan Paille to play every night, which is effectively turning the Rangers into a three line team. The Rangers suffered another serious blow to their team, as it was announced that Kevin Klein had suffered a fractured thumb and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Now Klein has not had the same offensive success as he had last season, but he’s really helped solidify the top pairing when playing with Ryan McDonagh. For the most part, he’s played consistently solid defense with solid possession numbers, and along with Keith Yandle, Klein has been one of the best defenseman this year. And now he’s gone.
This is bad. I don’t know if you realize how much of an effect this will have, but it’s bad. On one hand, it’s wonderful that Dylan McIlrath will be an everyday player. He totally deserves it and he will do well. But it’s terrible that it comes at the expense of Klein. Read the rest of this entry

This afternoon, Ryan Kennedy announced that the Rangers had signed veteran winger Daniel Paille to a contract. It was later reported by Sean Hartnett that the deal was a one year, two way deal valued at $575,000 in the NHL and $110,000 in the AHL.
Paille has been in the AHL this season with the Rockford Ice Hogs after spending the last six seasons with the Boston Bruins. He was drafted 20th overall by the Buffalo Sabres, and has appeared in 570 NHL games, scoring 85 goals and 172 points in that span. Last season he had six goals and seven assists in 71 games.
He also won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins back in 2011, scoring three goals with three assists and only four penalty minutes as the Bruins defeated the Vancouver Canucks. Read the rest of this entry

When the Ranger take on the Flyers and Capitals this weekend, they will be doing so with their mom’s by their side. Earlier in the season was the Rangers Dad’s trip, and this weekend the players get to spend time with their mothers.
The Ranger moms were at practice today, where Alain Vigneault switched up the forward lines ahead of the team’s tough weekend against the Flyers and the Capitals. Here’s what they looked like: Read the rest of this entry

TSN’s Bob McKenzie tweeted out that a deal between the Rangers and the Vancouver Canucks is getting done. The Canucks will get Etem and the Rangers will get a draft pick as well as winger Nicklas Jensen. The draft pick is a 2016 6th round pick.
Etem to VAN is being done. Nick Jensen and late pick going the other way.

Etem, 23, has played in 19 games with the Rangers, recording three assists, a minus four rating and 23 shots on goal. He’s played on all four lines, but has not gained traction in Alain Vigneault’s system. He hasn’t had the offensive impact that many had expected, and other players have won roster spots over him.
