Rangers offense shut down by Anderson and the Senators on the road

The first win streak in two months is already over for the Rangers (26-17-5).
After winning back-to-back games, the Rangers couldn’t string together another strong performance, never seeming to get their offense together against the Ottawa Senators (23-20-6).
Alain Vigneault’s squad looked really flat. The 35 shots on goal is deceptive because the offense just didn’t have it tonight. Not many of those shots were quality scoring chances, and they didn’t pressure Anderson enough. You could maybe blame the fact that they didn’t skate in two days, as well as the flight schedule being thrown off track, but this performance was inexcusable. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers win convincingly over Ottawa Senators; Brassard nets two

A win like this was desperately needed, and the Rangers did not disappoint.
Right before heading out on a three game road trip, the Rangers (18-7-3) got a bit of a confidence boost when they defeated the Ottawa Senators (14-8-5) by a final score of 4-1, playing one of their strongest games of the season.
The Rangers defensive effort was very strong, limiting Ottawa to just 24 shots on goal, and just three in the third period. They managed to throw 31 shots on goal themselves, and controlled the flow of the game from the get-go. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers must get back to winning against Senators at the Garden

The Rangers are slumping, badly, and a breakout performance is desperately needed before they head out on a three game road trip.
The Rangers (17-7-3) will take on the Ottawa Senators (14-7-5) for the second of three games this season. New York took the first game in a shootout, 2-1, back on November 14th, with Chris Kreider scoring the lone Rangers goal. The Blueshirts enter having won five of their last seven games against Ottawa.
After a nine game win streak early in the season, the Rangers have not been nearly as effective, posting a 3-5-1 record in their last nine games, as well as a 1-4-1 mark in their last six. The defense hasn’t been strong, the goal scoring department is starting to dry up, and their analytic numbers are beginning to regress towards normal. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers are playoff bound after dominating win in Ottawa: Glass scores first goal as a Ranger

Following a disappointing loss on Tuesday against the Kings, the Rangers (47-19-7) skated to a dominating 5-1 win against the hottest team in the NHL, making the Ottawa Senators (37-25-11) and Andrew Hammond, also known as the Hamburglar, look like a much worse team than they actually are.
With the win, the Rangers moved ahead of the Montreal Canadiens for sole possession of the first place spot in the Eastern Conference, and tied with the Anaheim Ducks for first in the President’s Trophy race. They also became the first team to clinch a playoff spot, and are very close to clinching home ice in the Metropolitan Division.
New York also hit the 100 point mark for just the eighth time in franchise history, and did so in only 73 games. That is tied for the second fastest it has taken to get 100 points in franchise history. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers face tough task against Ottawa and the “Hamburglar”

The Rangers (46-19-7) are looking to build off of their tough loss on Tuesday when they head to Ottawa to take on the red-hot Ottawa Senators (37-24-11), and their rookie goalie sensation Andrew Hammond, lovingly dubbed the “Hamburglar.”
This is the second of three games between these two teams, and the only one being played in Ottawa. The Rangers came away with a 3-2 overtime victory at Madison Square Garden, the final game before the All Star Break. Kevin Hayes and Chris Kreider scored the two regulation goals, and Carl Hagelin scored the overtime winner. Henrik Lundqvist was in net, stopping 33 of the 35 shots he faced.
The Rangers have a chance to equal or eclipse the 100 point mark this season for just the eighth time in franchise history. The Rangers could also clinch a playoff spot in two ways; a win over Ottawa and a Boston loss against Anaheim tonight, or an overtime loss against Ottawa and a Boston regulation loss.
