UPDATE: AV said that Girardi has swelling in his knee and will not play tomorrow. A defenseman will be recalled. It would be Diaz but he is injured so expect Skjei.

John Shannon of Sportsnet reported on Twitter today that the New York Rangers have placed center Jarret Stoll on waivers. If he clears, he will report to Hartford.

Jarret Stoll was a healthy scratch in Calgary on Saturday, with Tanner Glass playing a prominent role on the fourth line since he was recalled. Stoll had appeared in 29 games this season, recording one goal and an assist. Stoll had not been all that effective this season on the fourth line. Read the rest of this entry

Are the Rangers looking to trade Dominic Moore?

Two games ago, Alain Vigneault made the surprising move to scratch the ever-reliable Dominic Moore, a mainstay in the Rangers lineup for the past two seasons. He stated that he wanted to see Jarret Stoll as a true center, with two wingers by his side.

A bit odd, but experimental, which is fine. Stoll is a centerman by trade, and it allowed Emerson Etem to get some more games in. Nothing to see here.

An annual occurrence, Patrick Marleau’s name has been coming up in some trade rumors early. First reported by Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area, Marleau had supposedly stated that he would accept a trade to the Los Angeles Kings, the Anaheim Ducks or the New York Rangers.

Marleau is currently in the second year of a three year, $20 million contract. He has a full no trade clause and would need to approve any trade the Sharks would try. TSN’s Bob McKenzie later reported that it is more likely that Marleau asked the Sharks to look at trade possibilities, and it probably wasn’t the Sharks asking for a list of teams.

Rangers celebrate a goal 9-30

The long wait is finally over, and New York Rangers hockey is back!

The New York Rangers will begin their 89th season in the NHL on the road against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, fellow Original Six franchise, the Chicago Blackhawks. This is now the eighth straight season that the Rangers begin the season away from Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers will have to watch as they raise yet another Championship banner into the rafters at the United Center, a reminder of what has eluded them over the past few seasons. Perhaps the Rangers could use this as a source of motivation and work towards having this ceremony at MSG next season.

Tonight’s matchup is a game between two of the elite teams from last season. The Rangers won the Presidents’ Trophy last season with a franchise record 113 points, while the Blackhawks won their third Stanley Cup since 2010. Read the rest of this entry

Rangers “minor” offseason moves proving to be not so minor

The Rangers didn’t make any big splashes in free agency like they usually do. No huge signings, no blockbuster trades. And that’s why people wrote off their offseason moves as just slight depth moves, and not major improvements.

But if you look at the situation that Vigneault faced during final cuts after last year’s preseason games and compare it to now, those so-called “minor moves” are actually pretty darn important.

Last year, the Rangers were in a lot of trouble before the season started, losing Derek Stepan to a broken leg. He was slated to be their number one center, and Vigneault didn’t have Brian Boyle or Brad Richards anymore to step up as a substitute. Read the rest of this entry
