Sorry Filip Forsberg, what you have done in Nashville has been tremendous, but Aaron Ekblad of the Florida Panthers deserves to take home the Calder Trophy for the NHL’s most outstanding rookie.
Anytime you watch a Florida Panthers game and see Ekblad skating on the first defensive pairing, it’s easy to understand why Dale Tallon, the General Manager of the Panthers, drafted him with the first overall pick in last year’s draft. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers win thrilling battle over Panthers at the Garden; Zuccarello comes up big

In one of the most exciting games of the year, the Rangers (29-15-4) offense came alive once again, scoring three goals in the final period to come away with a 6-3 game victory over the Florida Panthers (21-17-10) at the Garden for their second consecutive win.
The Rangers survived some lulls in their play at the start of the game and towards the end of the second period, scoring an impressive six goals against a tough and desperate Panthers team. After scoring just one goal in the first two games following the All Star break, the Rangers have exploded for 10 goals in their last two games. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers continue homestand against the Panthers; Lundqvist expected to play

After winning on Saturday to end their brief two game skid, the Rangers (28-15-4) will take on the struggling Florida Panthers (21-16-10, who have lost six of their last seven games.
This will be the second matchup of the season between these two teams, with the first being a 5-2 Rangers victory on December 31st. In that game, Derek Stepan recorded three assists, and Chris Kreider, Ryan McDonagh, and Martin St. Louis recorded a goal and an assist. Henrik Lundqvist earned the win with 18 saves. Rangers finish the year on a positive note with a win over the Panthers

The Rangers (20-11-4) closed out the year strong, with a dominating win over the Florida Panthers (16-10-9) on the road, scoring five goals, all from different players.
The Blueshirts overcame a bad first 10 minutes, controlling the final 50 minutes, scoring the first goal of the game and never losing the lead.
Florida was held to just 20 shots in the game, mostly in part to an excellent defensive effort from all of the players. Ryan McDonagh, Marc Staal and Chris Kreider all stood out, playing well in their own end and preventing the Panthers from ever establishing their game. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers look to end 2014 on a positive note against the Panthers

The Rangers and the Panthers will face off for the first time this season on Wednesday, and both teams will be looking to end the season on a good note.
The Rangers (19-11-4) will be looking to finish the season strong, and will be matched up against a surprising Florida Panthers (16-9-8) team in the final game of 2014.
The Panthers will be playing their second game in as many days, and lost to the Montreal Canadiens in the shootout on Tuesday night. Roberto Luongo started in net for the Panthers, meaning that Al Montoya will start against the Rangers. Montoya is 2-2-2 with a 2.27 goals allowed average and a .915 save percentage.
The Panthers have been dubbed the “Comeback Cats” by many of their supporters, mainly due to their ability to comeback late in games, as well as sending the game to overtime frequently, leading the league in overtime games with 15 this season. They scored four goals in overtime to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday, and scored a goal with less than two minutes to send the game into overtime before losing in the shootout.
