Rangers look to finish first half strong against Ducks: Hagelin returns to MSG
Bobby Bevilacqua
Tonight at MSG, the Rangers (19-12-4) will take on the struggling Anaheim Ducks (12-15-5) in the last game before a six day Christmas holiday break. It may look like a meaningless mid-December game, but Alain Vigneault will be looking for a way to snap his team out of their funk and try and right the ship before the break.
This is the first of two games between the Rangers and Ducks this season, and the only one at MSG. The Rangers owned the season series last year, winning both games by a combined score of 11-3, including a 7-2 win at the Garden.
Winning has not come easy for the Rangers lately. Their 7-3 loss on Sunday, surrendering six straight goals to the Washington Capitals, saw them hit a new low. In their last 14 games, they’ve won just three times, collecting a total of eight points in the standings out of a possible 28. Read the rest of this entry
Rangers Rumor Mill: Is Patrick Marleau headed to Broadway?
Bobby Bevilacqua
The crazy trade rumors are starting really early this year.
An annual occurrence, Patrick Marleau’s name has been coming up in some trade rumors early. First reported by Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area, Marleau had supposedly stated that he would accept a trade to the Los Angeles Kings, the Anaheim Ducks or the New York Rangers.
Marleau is currently in the second year of a three year, $20 million contract. He has a full no trade clause and would need to approve any trade the Sharks would try. TSN’s Bob McKenzie later reported that it is more likely that Marleau asked the Sharks to look at trade possibilities, and it probably wasn’t the Sharks asking for a list of teams.
It is less likely SJ asked Marleau to waive NTC and more likely that Marleau asked SJ to explore trade possibilities to select teams.

Quick Hits: The future of NHL advertising, Carl Hagelin may have wanted to stay, NHL top 200 players

Welcome back to quick hits, and here is some of the news surrounding the Rangers and the NHL.
NHL moves to Adidas for production of hockey jerseys (TSN.ca)

Every once in a while, the NHL changes the makers of their jerseys, usually bringing some slight changes and style choices with them. For the start of the 2017-18 season, Adidas will be taking over the jersey production from Reebok, a sports brand owned by Adidas.
Adidas beat out Under Armour and Bauer Hockey for the jersey contract, a deal which will pay the league $35 million. Neither side commented, but the deal is expected to be formally announced in September.
This could mean some significant changes to the jerseys, including the trademark three stripe design down the shoulders and arms. But there could be an even bigger change coming with Adidas, who design a lot of the soccer jerseys in leagues like the MLS and the Premier League. Read the rest of this entry
Quick Hits: Brandon Halverson, Carl Hagelin and the Patrick Kane situation
Bobby Bevilacqua
So I’ve decided to continue with the Quick Hits articles. There really isn’t much to talk about right now, and this allows me to talk about things with the Rangers and any other stories around the league.
Brandon Halverson continues to impress
Brandon Halverson, the Rangers second round draft pick in 2014, is one of the most talented prospects in the team’s organization. Standing at 6-foot-4 and 179 pounds, the 19 year old goaltender is making a case to be the starter for the United States in the IIHF World Junior Championship. Read the rest of this entry
Where the newest Rangers players fit in the lineup
Bobby Bevilacqua
The Rangers didn’t make any big splashes in free agency, mainly due to the restrictions of the salary cap. Instead, Jeff Gorton added some players to help bolster the Rangers’ bottom six forward group, and making other subtle moves to help provide depth.
Barring contract disagreements or trades, the Rangers are likely done making moves to acquire new players. So looking at the new additions for this year, where do they fit in the Rangers plans? Read the rest of this entry
